The Different Uses Of Fabric Glue

Fabric glue has some advantage over other methods of joining, like stitching or stapling. The glue can be used to effectively bond surfaces where joining marks like stitches or staples may not be aesthetically permissible or when the time is short.

The one thing to be kept in mind is that it may not be able to take too much stress. Hence, its use should be restricted to areas or uses that do not need much rough handling or load bearing.

Fabric appliqué work

It comes in handy when decorating a fabric with an ornamental patch or cutout. Use it to bond patches for decorative purposes, avoiding areas such as the knees or elbow, shoulders and wrists when using on garments. When used for simple ornamental uses, the glue will hold on to the patch well.

When used in wall hangings and other object of art for decorative purposes, fabric glue comes in handy for its aesthetic properties. Again, stick to decorative surfaces, avoiding parts that handle stress.

Joining edges

Use fabric glue to join seams or edges that are not subjected to too much stress. Ideally, the objects should be decorative and not load-bearing. Because fabric glue cannot handle too much stress, it is not advised for objects such as seating upholstery and joints in garments that may be subject to stress. Fabric is not advised even for attaching pockets to garments because if subjected to stress, these attachments may come undone. However, objects such as decorative wall panels and lampshades can be done up with fabric glue.

Adding embellishments

Just as appliqué work can be done using, embellishments such as glitter or sequins can be effectively attached using it. This makes the task easier and adds to the aesthetics of the object overall because joins made using fabric glue are invisible. Buttons that are not to be used can also be stuck using it.

Creating patterns with fabric glue

This may not be one of the most convenient ways to paint over fabric, but can be used in case you need to make artwork or design over fabric with glitter dust or other similar decorative items. Simply trace the design over with a brush dipped in fabric and sprinkle over with glitter dust. Once the glue dries, dust off any surplus.

It can also be used to create shadow designs on fabric that react with it and turn a shade darker. Paint over with fabric to create watermarks and other similar effects.

As a convenient and aesthetically pleasing adhesive, fabric is ideal for creating artificial silk flowers, decorative vases, and hat decorations.
