Now when buying home textiles, many businesses will recommend chiffon fabric. Our sensory impression of chiffon should be light and soft, but we still don’t know much about what chiffon fabric is. Let’s introduce the advantages and disadvantages of chiffon.

What is chiffon fabric

Chiffon’s name comes from the sound and meaning of French chiffe, which means light, thin and transparent fabric.

It is a textile product in silk products. The chiffon fabric is light, transparent, soft and elegant.

The scientific name of “chiffon fabric” is “Georgette” — Georgette, also known as georgette crepe, is a silk fabric woven with strong twist crepe warp and crepe weft. The name of georgette comes from France.

The light, heavy, thick, thin, transparent and crepe effect of georgette yarn mainly depend on the thickness, number of combinations, twist and warp and weft density of silk thread.

The warp and weft yarns adopt two strong twist yarns with different twist directions of S twist and Z twist, which are arranged alternately according to 2S and 2Z (two left and two right), interleaved with plain weave, and the warp and weft density of the fabric is very small.

After scouring, the green silk shrinks and crepes due to the untwisting effect of the silk thread, forming a Georgette with uniform wrinkles and loose structure on the silk surface.

Chiffon can be divided into silk georgette, rayon Georgette, polyester Georgette and interwoven Georgette according to the raw materials used.

If the weft adopts only one twist direction, the woven Georgette is called CIS fiber Georgette, and CIS fiber Georgette presents warp concave convex pleated irregular wrinkles.

However, most of these problems are caused by improper washing and maintenance.

In fact, as long as you master the correct washing and maintenance methods, these problems can be avoided.
